Betsy Coffia rocking the Equal Pay Day (organized by the AAUW) rally in Traverse City!
“70% of women surveyed by the TC Business News last year said there is a wage gap. 70% of men didn’t think so. The stats show women in MI make .74 for every $1 their equally qualified co-workers make doing the same thing for the same # of years. We can, and MUST, do better!” Betsy Coffia
Yes, even more edits! These pictures were taken at the second One Billion Rising flash mob in TC!
HEY GUYS - Guess what I had the honor of doing? Taking Ratone’s ‘promo shot’! (In other words, the picture that goes in their press-packets and advertising.)
It’s not a huge deal as a photographer, but it’s kind of a big deal to me, because photographers are a dime a dozen in Traverse City and Ratone has a decent sized cluster of girls with cameras following them around/fawning over them, and it was just really excellent to be chosen.
I am not the prettiest, sexiest, loudest, or coolest, Ratone fan, and that fact that I was chosen based on my skill and ability (and because they like my work) and not my looks (average), sexiness (negative sexiness - I don’t do sexy), volume (quiet), or popularity (negative 50), is just beyond awesome. It makes me feel like I am doing something right, like I am good at what I do, and like I am not just some quiet creep with a camera, like I matter as a person and a photographer, ya know?
Lord almighty, my emotions are running high and this got real sappy real fast, I should quit while I am ahead.

Peter Melichar of Ratone!
I am pleased and enraged with how this turned out. I am pleased because it again, embodies Peter and Ratone, is reminiscent of Elvis (and I personally feel James Dean), and is just a neat shot! I am enraged because I was using manual focus without my glasses on and it is just slightly blurred. I could further sharpen it in lightroom, but that would distort it too much, and create a crap-ton of noise.
Oh well, live and learn! (Also be grateful I got the shot in the first place, ha ha.)
